Welcome to your weekly Sabbath pause, dear friends. As we close another week of creating, striving, and growing, let's take a moment to breathe deeply and reflect on God's faithfulness in our creative journeys.
WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL: Built on the Rock
"Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." - Matthew 7:24-25
There's something deeply satisfying about watching a master craftsman at work. The way they measure twice and cut once. The way they take time to prepare the foundation properly, knowing that everything else depends on getting that part right. They understand that shortcuts in the foundation stage will show up as cracks in the finished structure.
This week, we've been talking about foundations—the bedrock principles that support our creative lives when the storms of doubt, rejection, and overwhelm start blowing.
In our Monday study, we explored how God Himself is the ultimate Creator, the Word who spoke worlds into existence. This isn't just beautiful theology; it's the foundation stone of our entire creative identity. When we ground our creativity in the truth that we're made in the image of the Creator God, our work becomes more than self-expression or entertainment—it becomes participation in the ongoing creative work of God in the world.
Wednesday reminded us that our neurodivergent need for fresh starts isn't a flaw to overcome but a feature to embrace. When we build our creative systems on sustainable, renewal-ready foundations rather than rigid perfectionism, we create space for the seasonal rhythms that our brains need to thrive. We're not building creative houses of cards that collapse with the first change of season—we're building flexible, adaptive structures that can weather our natural cycles of renewal and growth.
Friday's manifesto on clean fiction showed us what it looks like to build creative work on our values rather than market pressures or cultural expectations. When we root our storytelling in the conviction that words have the power to speak life or death, hope or despair, we're choosing to build on the rock of truth rather than the shifting sand of popular opinion.
Here's what I love about Jesus's parable of the two builders: Both houses looked fine from the outside. The difference wasn't visible until the storms came. In our creative lives, we'll face storms—rejection, criticism, creative blocks, and seasons of doubt. But when our creative identity is built on the rock of God's Word, when our systems are grounded in sustainable practices, and when our content flows from deeply held values, those storms don't destroy us. They reveal the strength of our foundation.
The wise builder in Jesus's story didn't just hear the words—they put them into practice. They did the hard work of digging down to bedrock before they started building. For us as creatives, this means taking time to establish who we are as image-bearers before we worry about what we're creating. It means building systems that honor our God-given design rather than fighting against it. It means choosing to write from our convictions even when it would be easier to follow trends.
Building on the rock requires patience and intentionality. It means saying no to some opportunities so we can say yes to the ones that align with our foundation. It means trusting that work built on solid ground will stand the test of time, even when flashier projects seem to get more immediate attention.

A Little Christmas Magic (Yes, Already!)
Speaking of new seasons and unexpected gifts... I have some exciting news to share!
This week I announced my first fiction book—a cozy Christmas romance called Blue Stone Christmas. It’s about a high-powered NYC marketing executive who gets snowed in with her ex-boyfriend in a small North Carolina mountain town, and all the Christmas magic (and awkwardness) that ensues.
The story explores themes close to my heart: second chances, choosing authentic community over impressive careers, and finding home in the people who see us fully. If you love clean romance with heart, Christmas books that make you believe in grace, or stories about multipassionate women figuring out what they really want, this might be your new favorite cozy read.
Signed copies are available for pre-order now, or you can grab it everywhere on October 25th. Read More Here!!
I’d love to hear what you think!
May your week be filled with creative courage and holy rest. May you build on the rock of God's Word, trust in the foundation He has laid in your heart, and find joy in the patient work of creating something that will stand the test of time. Go in peace, knowing that your Creator delights in your creativity.
